Meet our Governors

As a mother, grandmother and retired teacher, I am very proud to be Chair of Governors. I especially enjoy living in the village and supporting our wonderful school and the community of Mevagissey. As a Governor I am especially interested in Special Needs, raising standards and looking at how we can improve the outcomes for all our children.


Books are such an important part of my life and I’m fortunate to belong to a local book club and since moving to Cornwall I am able to order books on line, picking them up from our monthly community library van. My earliest recollections are being engrossed as a child in the ‘Chronicles of Narnia’ The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe being the first of the six books. I just loved being in the fantasy world of the author C. S. Lewis. Although these books were written over sixty years ago, they have been adapted for radio, television, the stage and film and are still read today. I really enjoyed Roald Dahl books when I began teaching, reading them to both my class and my own children, always starting with Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. I have read every one of his seventeen children’s novels. I also found his ‘Revolting Rhymes’, so amusing, with the surprise endings in place of the traditional ‘happily ever after’ finishes to the six well known fairy tales. My grandchildren love me to read to them, especially Michael Morpurgo books, the first I ever read was ‘War Horse’. I found this an inspirational novel, the experiences of Joey, a horse purchased by the army for service in World War 1 France and the attempts of young Albert his previous owner to bring him safely home was just so moving. I was so pleased to be able to watch both the film and stage musical recently, finding both of them very emotional. At the moment I am re- reading Louis Sachar ‘Holes’ I just love this story of Stanley’s life told in such an exceptionally funny way.

I love to get engrossed in a good book! One book I absolutely loved when I was younger was Marianne Dreams by Catherine Storr. It’s such a gripping tale. I was completely absorbed by the characters and unfolding story and couldn’t wait to find out what happened at the end (I won’t tell!). I love children’s picture books too. One of my favourites is The Time It Took Tom by Nick Sharratt and Stephen Tucker: it’s very clever and very funny!

I'm Ann Trevarton and had two children, Frankie and Louis, at our school. I'm a former pupil of Mevagissey School and have always lived in the village. My background is in working in local communities providing Council services. As a Governor I am particularly interested in enhancing the outside spaces, so our children have great opportunities for having fun and learning.

Originally from London Apprentice I successfully made it back to Cornwall (and London Apprentice!) in 2001 - following completion of my degree at Nottingham Trent University and 3 years working in the Lake District. I am a qualified Chartered Surveyor and have worked for both private and public sector companies. In 2012 I set up my own business specialising in commercial property development. My wife and I have two sons, one now at Secondary School and the other still attends Mevagissey School – which we all think is fantastic and certainly the right choice for us. As a Governor I hope to be able to contribute to and support the ongoing success of the school and most importantly its pupils.

I have lived and worked in Mevagissey for over 46 years. I am very involved in the community, and bring that involvement into my role as governor.

My husband and I moved from St Austell to Mevagissey at the end of 2015. I have been involved mainly in the secondary sector of education for over 30 years, initially as a Secondary English teacher, then Head of Department, followed by an Advanced Skills teacher, a Lecturer specialising in raising academic standards and finally as an Advisor and Educational Consultant. I retired in 2014 and wanted to become involved in the community. My main interests, outside education, are our family, theatre, music, drama, wildlife and a love of travel. I hope by becoming a governor I could be of some use to this vibrant successful primary school.

Jon grew up in Mevagissey and is a former pupil of our school.
Jon is Principal at Callywith College, having previously been Assistant Principal responsible for Teaching and Learning and ensuring that the subject specialists delivering the College's courses are given the best possible environment to help students achieve outstanding results. Jon also has experience as Team Leader for Science and leading on the Medics’ Academy at Truro College which has supported hundreds of aspiring doctors, vets and dentists.
